EFI offers a wide range of chemical, microbial, materials and metallurgical laboratory analyses utilizing state-of-the-art equipment. Our technical laboratories are strategically located across the United States to service the needs of our clients.

Staffed with degreed and experienced professionals who are chemists, microbiologists, metallurgist and mechanical/materials engineers, our laboratories provide a variety of tests to support fire investigations, indoor air quality (IAQ) assessments, mold evaluations, failure analysis, and material composition. We provide the highest quality analysis, rapid turnaround times and consulting expertise to assist our clients with their project needs.

Our chemical laboratories specialize in fire debris analysis to include ignitable liquid residue, spontaneous heating, fuel contamination, and combustion by-product testing. Our microbiological services focus on testing of fungal and bacterial growth in indoor environments and water.

For mechanical, electrical, metallurgical/materials engineering needs, EFI utilizes special laboratory equipment to include a scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and a digital x-ray machine. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy is used to obtain an infrared spectrum of absorption or emission of a solid, liquid or gas to determine its composition.

Our laboratory analytical tools assist with failure analysis to identify whether failures are caused by design deficiencies, material defects, manufacturing defects or anomalies in the service life. Specific examples of our services and applications provide the analysis of corrosion, castings, forgings, coatings and surface treatments, fractures, hardness tests, metallography and microstructural aspects, polymers, organic solids and welds.

Results obtained from our laboratories support scientific analysis of cause and origin, environmental compliance, subrogation and litigation assistance. Contact us today to learn how EFI can meet your laboratory testing and analysis needs.
