What is Human Factors Analysis?

The scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data and methods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance – The Human Factors and Ergonomics Society

Our qualified investigators and engineers can put the “human” into the picture in accident reconstruction, cause analysis, and product evaluation. We consider the role of people throughout the system life-cycle, starting from conception and continuing on through design, testing, manufacture, distribution, installation, training, operating, supervision, maintenance, repair, recycling and disposal.

In Human Factors, the focus is on making design choices that promote safe and effective use or operation. Designers should not only take into account intended use and intended users, but also unintended but foreseeable misuse. Even intended users may get into trouble due to lack of knowledge, training, or experience.

What is it about people?

People have great variety of characteristics, including physical, physiological, psychological, and psychophysical. Properly accounting for this in design and forensics can be challenging. People can be great doing the most complicated problem-solving, but are also sometimes quite unreliable at doing simple, repetitive tasks.
