Mr. Cox joined the Kenilworth Volunteer Fire Department in 1991 at the age of 18, while being a senior in High School. He earned his Firefighter I and Firefighter II certifications and an associate degree in Fire Science and Technology, from Union County College. Before leaving the in 1999 he rose to the rank of Lieutenant and won a lifesaving award from the Borough of Kenilworth.
Mr. Cox was hire by the Kenilworth Police Department in 1999 and attended the John H. Stamler Police Academy. After graduating he was assigned to the Patrol Division. In 2002 Officer Cox joined the Union County Fire Investigation Unit. In 2003 he completed the IAAI 80-hour basic fire investigation course.
Mr. Cox was a member of the County Fire Investigation Unit from 2002 to 2011. In 2006 he became a Team Leader, in which he oversaw numerous investigations. He then went on to earn his NAFI CFEI certification. In 2020 he was reassigned to the Union County Fire Investigation Unit and serves on it to this date.
During Mr. Cox 25-year career with the Kenilworth Police Department, he attended numerous professional development classes. He attended Crash I given by North Western College and investigated numerous major accidents in the Borough. He also attended Interview and Interrogation course given at the Stamler Police Academy. In 2018 Officer Cox was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was assigned to the patrol division. In 2021 he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the patrol division.
In 2020 he earned his UAS Remote Pilot’s License and became the Commander of the Kenilworth Police Department Drone Program, which he started. He oversaw training the drone pilots and updating the Departments SOP.
In 2018 he rejoined the Kenilworth Volunteer Fire Department as an Auxiliary Members and continues to volunteer to this day.
