Mr. Corliss began his career in Electrical Engineering by serving the Oil and Gas Exploration sector of the Energy industry. Working for an equipment manufacturer he designed and brought to market electronic equipment and systems that helped geophysical companies detonate energy sources and capture seismic data used to locate sources of oil and gas beneath the earth’s surface. Designs included; low voltage, battery operated, analog and digital electronics, printed circuit boards, microcontroller-based circuits, radio frequency telemetry, single board computer, EISA bus architectures, schematic capture, proprietary software and GPS integration. Positions held include Engineer and Engineering Manager.
After 10 years in Exploration Mr. Corliss moved to the Oil and Gas Drilling sector of the industry. Working for another 8 years with an equipment manufacturer, he designed and brought to market systems that helped drilling contractors safely drill and locate oil and gas in ultra-deep waters offshore using semisubmersible rigs. These Blow Out Preventer Safety Systems included; Uninterrupted Power Supplies, Power Distribution Systems, Electrical/Hydraulic Pumping Units, Fluid Mixing Systems, Computer/Networked Control Panels, Subsea Electronics and Electrical Umbilical Cables/Reels. Designs included; redundant, high availability electrical and electronics. Serial communications, fiber optics, Computer base controls, QNX operating system-based software, motor controls, electric driven pumps, hydraulic controls and pneumatic controls. Positions held include: Engineer, Project Engineer, Lead Project Engineer, Chief Engineer over Hardware and Software Design, Customer Service Manager over Field Service and Training.
Combining engineering and firefighting experiences, Mr. Corliss made the transition to Public Safety obtaining a Peace Officer Certification and Joining the Harris County Fire Marshal Office as an Arson Investigator conducting origin and cause investigations and working criminal cases for fires within the unincorporated county. After 8 years of service in Harris County He went to work for Fort Bend County where he conducted life safety inspections for commercial occupancies in addition to fire investigations for the unincorporated areas in the county. While at Fort Bend County Mr. Corliss was promoted to Deputy Chief over Investigations where he served his last three years with the county before joining EFI Global.
Concurrently, Mr. Corliss has served and continues to serve as a Firefighter/EMT for a Fire Department that responds to approximately 25% of the unincorporated Harris County, Texas. Positions held over the past 26 years include: Firefighter/EMT, Lieutenant, Captain, District Safety Officer, Radio Technician, Fire Academy Training Instructor, Assistant Chief over Safety and Public Relations and Fire Investigator.
As a member of Texas A&M Task Force-1, the state and federal Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team that responds to natural and man-made disasters, Mr. Corliss has responded to several catastrophic events including; Hurricanes, Laura, Sally, IKE, Katrina, Rita, Alex, Ivan, Dennis, Humberto, Dean, Eduardo, Gustav, South Texas Floods, Hill Country Floods, 2017 Canton Tornados, 2006 Houston Floods, 2007 North Texas Floods, 2007 San Antonio Floods. Positions held over the years include: Technical Information Specialist, Planning Team Manager and Hazmat Specialist.
Mr. Corliss has been conducting fire investigations for over ten years. He has personally participated or been lead investigator for over 1000 fires. The investigations include large commercial and industrial fires, fatality fires, vehicle fires, and multi-family and single-family structure fires. Areas of Expertise:
