Professional Summary
Ben has been in the civil engineering field since his first college internship and transitioned to forensic investigations after years of design work since graduation. His experience ranges from the structural design of wood-framed buildings, residential and commercial remodels, as well as residential masonry and concrete structures and retaining walls. In the forensics field, he has inspected roofs ranging from sloped concrete tiles to low-slope single-ply membranes as well as structures of various construction. He has investigated damage from hail, wind, rain, and other phenomenon, including tidal action and hurricane damage on beachfront properties, damage and repairs to trusses and walls from fires and treefalls, as well as issues in homes resulting from earthquakes, long-term ground movement, construction related issues and several other concerns. He has investigated sources of moisture and organic growth such as mold from plumbing leaks, AC defects, animal sources, and other unique situations within residences. He has experience in several states, including California, Florida, Colorado, and Arizona. Ben has a depth of knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC), California Building Code (CBC), National Design Specifications for Wood Design (NDS), The Masonry Society 402/602 Codes (TMS), The American Concrete Institute 318 (ACI), and the American Society of Civil Engineers 7 (ASCE-7).
