Science and quality service

At EFI Global, science meets quality service in our state-of-the-art Rocklin, California laboratory. Staffed by degreed and experienced professionals, the Rocklin Forensic and Environmental Laboratory specializes in advanced fire testing services — including the analysis of fire debris for ignitable liquid residues, self-heating vegetable oil residue and combustion by-products. These capabilities are essential for thorough fire origin and cause investigations and smoke and fire damage remediation claims. We help fire investigators and industrial hygienists answer their analytical questions so they can resolve claim questions with confidence.

Our mission is simple: to help clients turn complex problems into solid solutions. We are committed to scientific integrity, transparency and the highest standards of quality operation. Guided by values of honesty, accountability, collaboration, growth, inclusion and empathy, our team continually advances our analytical capabilities, customer service and innovation — assuring every investigation is backed by sound science.

Why choose EFI Global Rocklin?

With over 50,000 samples analyzed, EFI Global’s Rocklin Laboratory is a leader in fire debris analysis for both forensic and environmental applications. Our experts are experienced in both criminal and civil proceedings, regularly providing defensible results that stand up in court and deposition settings. Most laboratory results are delivered within three to five business days, empowering clients to move forward with confidence in their investigations and claims. Our personnel include ASTM E30.01, 30.13 and 30.16 voting members, an analyst certified by the American Board of Criminalistics in Fire Debris Analysis (ABC-FD), AIHA, CCAI, A2LA and other relevant professional organizations.

Forensic testing

Our laboratory delivers modern forensic testing to support fire origin and cause investigations. We utilize advanced analytical techniques — such as gas chromatography × mass spectrometry — to examine fire debris samples for ignitable liquids and other combustion-related compounds. Samples are prepared and analyzed for ignitable liquids using industry-standard methods (ASTM E1412, ASTM E1388, ASTM E1618) to ensure scientifically sound and legally defensible results. We also test for fatty acids/self-heating vegetable oils (ASTM E2881) to provide insight into potential spontaneous ignition scenarios.

Environmental testing

The EFI Global Rocklin Laboratory provides advanced environmental testing to support wildfire impact assessments and smoke damage evaluations. We use a modern combination of transmitted brightfield, reflected-light darkfield and polarized light microscopy to analyze tape-lift samples, following the AIHA-25 Technical Guide for Wildfire Impact Assessments. Our methods deliver results that meet industry standards for accuracy and defensibility, providing reliable data for expert interpretation for property damage assessments and insurance claims.
