    Mr. Matthew Williams has 23 years of fire and explosion investigation experience, 12 of which was as the fire investigation team lead with the Los Alamos County Fire Department. He has conducted over 350 fire investigations for, and in conjunction with multiple agencies including local, county, state and federal jurisdictions. Such investigations included structural, vehicle, wildland, and fatality fires.  Mr. Williams was responsible for identifying Origin & Cause determinations declared to be incendiary, accidental, product failure, vehicle, wildland, and fatality fires.

    In 2000, Mr. Williams earned the Department of Energy’s Medal of Valor for his wildland suppression efforts in the Cerro Grande fire; and in 2011 the Medal of Honor for his suppression efforts in the Los Conchas Fire. In 2013, he was honored for his “Generous and Dedicated Support” to the New Mexico Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators.

    He has demonstrated his commitment to organizational excellence and was a core contributor to the Los Alamos County Fire Department’s accreditation process; participating in the development of the 5-year Community Driven Strategic Plan, Community Risk Assessment-Standard of Cover and Self-Assessment Core Competencies and performance indicators.
